The yellow-red-blue-clear pattern
Easter Eggs | Fringe - 115 Inner Child | Fringe - 116 Unleashed | Theories & Speculation | Posted by ScullyLast week I noticed that the color yellow seemed to be very dominant in the episode (”Inner Child”).
I figured it to be a reference to the possibility that the medicine Olivia was getting as a child was yellow…
Yellow

But then this week I noticed that the magic color seemed to be red…really, really, really red…
red
OK…so that’s a lot of red, right? I thought so too. But it wasn’t until I noticed the close-up of the toast in Walter’s lab, that I began to wonder if there isn’t a bigger pattern here than I originally thought.
yellow-red-blue-gray?

The four colors line themselves up again at the frat house, although they are not in the same order…
yellow-clear?-red-blue
pattern
If last week’s episode was dominated by yellow and this week’s episode was over-run by red, do you think next week will be littered with blue? It seems like a possibility, but what does it mean? Red, Yellow and Blue are the primary colors. But what possible insight does that give us? And that doesn’t account for the clear/gray. Maybe it has something to do with the meaning of the colors…
yellow
YELLOW: Like the energy of a bright sunny day, yellow brings clarity and awareness. Clean light yellow clears the mind, making it active and alert. It is full of creative and intellectual energy, and is the color associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra. This chakra deals with identity.
red
RED: Red is the color most chosen by extroverts and one of the top picks of males. On the negative side red can mean temper or anger. It is associated with fiery heat and warmth. It can also mean danger (burning). Red is the color of blood, and as such has strong symbolism as life and vitality. It brings focus to the essence of life and living with emphasis on survival. Red is the color associated with the Root Chakra. This chakra deals with the protection of individual integrity.
blue
BLUE: Blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. It gives a feeling of distance which allows us to look beyond and increase our perspective outward. The vibration of blue can be used to open energy flow where it is blocked. Blue is the color associated with the Throat Chakra. This chakra deals with creativity, self-expression and the search for truth.
gray
GRAY: Gray is the true neutral color. Its energy imparts void, emptiness, lack of movement, emotion, warmth and identifying characteristics. Because of this, gray can be restful. It has a detached and isolated feeling. Gray is also the color of sorrow. People who favor gray can be the lone wolf type or narrow-minded.
crystal
CRYSTAL: (The closest I could find) Crystal brings harmony to the life force. Used for healing, meditation, chakra balancing, protection, and changing bad vibrations. Crystal is used in expanding the mind to touch the spirit world, and enhance the beneficial life force. Crystal and gemstone balls have been used for divination since at least medieval times. They are a traditional symbol of the occult and hidden wisdom, and much more.
colors
So, what does it all mean?
meaning
‘Yellow clears the mind, making it active and alert‘ could be in reference to the child and/or Olivia. They both seem to have a more advanced mind than average. Being able to shut lights off simply by thinking about it or knowing the thoughts of a serial killer would certainly fall under the category of ‘intellectual energy‘.
meaning
Red ‘can also mean danger’seems pretty self explanatory to me…murder, death, kill!! But perhaps it is more of a reference to Walter’s struggle to correct the mistakes he made 20 years ago. Mistakes that are costing people their lives… ‘the protection of individual integrity‘.
meaning
Where does that leave us for Blue… ‘spirituality‘? And is the final color meant to be Gray or Crystal? It is just another in a long line of mysteries that keeps me glued to the set every Tuesday. I wait anxiously to see if next weeks episode confirms my color pattern theory.

Interesting pattern. I noticed the yellow and also didn’t put much into it. Yellow also activates memory and encourages communication, this could relate to Olivia and the mini-observer as well. I think the red relates better to integrity rather than danger.

I actually think it was more for danger then for integrity. It fits with the opening scene, the playground, the ambulance driver and the underground tunnel. Can’t wait to watch for blue.

but it doesn’t fit the scene at the end with the medicine! that medicene saved charlies life. no danger there.

I agree with contagion, I think red relates more to Walter and his integrity. He really felt guilty about what he had done, so much so that he was willing to die to fix it. BTW love this color idea! Good catch Scully!

after reading the spoiler for next week, i think blue might be a good theory. ‘gives a feeling of distance which allows us to look beyond and increase our perspective outward’ that line in particular would apply to olivia very well in that plot line. i will be watching for blue in every scene.

I found another yellow to add to “inner Child”. The boy’s IV bag was yellow.

let us not forget these colors were represented in Olivia’s first dreamscape with John in the pilot (when she was standing on the daisy patterned child’s rug, the same colors were spread throughout the rug) …… also those were yellow daisies in Olivia’s card from her step-father …… and then we have the colors shifting on the walls behind Olivia’s day-dreaming in MD when she envisioned Broyles grilling her about being prego ….. oh yeah, colors are everywhere and have a def. meaning O_o

Hey how nobody asked Who was Walter talking to “I can’t concentrate with you running around?” when Astrid asked if he was talking to her he said no.
May 8th, at 12:57 pm
Totally forgot about that!! I am going to have to re-watch that scene. Maybe he was talking to his alter-Walter.
