Nick Lane’s tattoo & scar
Easter Eggs | Fringe - 117 Bad Dreams | Theories & Speculation | Posted by Scullykemz (fat rabbit) asked aobut Nick Lane’s tattoo…here is a pic…
Tree tattoo
.
I looked up the actor, David Call, but I could not find out if the tattoo is real or part of the show. In case it is part of the show…here is what I found out about trees:
.
In the Celtic creation tradition trees were the ancestors of mankind. The Celts believed that trees had spirits and were living beings. Trees were symbols of ancient wisdom who provided the alphabet, the calendar, and entrance to the realms of the Gods. Trees were also associated in the Shamanic beliefs of the Druids and other Celtic peoples with the supernatural world. Trees were a connection to the world of the spirits and the ancestors, living entities, and doorways into other worlds. Celtic art often represented the branches and roots of trees as intertwined, a potent symbol of the interconnectedness of all life and the conscious and unconscious worlds.
.
Hmmm…interesting.
.
I will also take this opportunity to post an image of Nick’s scar…after all, it does look like a two. Maybe it’s the Next Episode Clue for “Midnight”.
Scar

i don’t think that the scar will be the next episode clue….compared to the other clues, its seen WAY too frequently throughout the episode

i’m going to send that picture to a doctor friend, but that doesn’t seem like a ‘regular’ scar, but more like a purposeful incision..surgery, perhaps? it doesn’t look that old, maybe part of the activation, maybe someone tried to temper with his..well, brain i guess, that’s what’s near there. who knows, but i think it has something to do with the activation, i’ll see what i can dig up on what surgery could leave such a gnarly scar.

Maybe it was some sort of surgery to try and undo what was happening to him, since his special ability is dangerous to others, and not a welcome gift.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Nick had tried to lobotomize himself with a butter knife
April 30th, at 2:57 am
that is kind of hot… in a sociopathic sort of way

I think that part of the brain holds the temporal lobe, so a self attempt at a lobotomy is not that bad of an idea. I believe it is questions like this, that we will NEVER learn the answers to.

The tree, could it be a reference to the Axis Mundi?

Interesting read. It is curious that the tattoo shows the roots of the tree.
“uniting three planes: sky (branches), trunk (earth) and underworld (roots).”

Just saw the Canadian preview for the upcoming episode and in what might be an alternate reality that Liv is experiencing Charlie has a scar on his face not completely unlike Nick’s. It’s lower, and it’s almost like the base of Nick’s 2 were a hinge and the scar was a vertical mirror image on Charlie.
I could be wrong it’s only visible for about 2 frames and it’s overexposed.

There was a show called Carnivale where the primary antagonist has a tree with roots showing tattooed on his chest as a sort of rite of passage to unlock his devilish abilities.
Maybe JJ is paying tribute?

I was reading about the trees in the later posts and I remembered the tatttoo. This is further proof. We didn’t notice this before because we weren’t lloking for it but i’m starting to be convince we are most likely (rolls eyes) going to have to go back all the way to the first episode and have clues of two different worlds. The tattoo of a tree seems weird unless that tree is probably extinct and is thus an iconic image. what do you think?

It’s so true Jo. We are definitely have to go all the way back to the beginning and look for things that we wouldn’t have noticed before.
Sound like a summer undertaking. Something to keep us occupied during the Fringe-free months.

I was also thinking maybe it was a reference to the way the tree of possibilities looks. One branch, then you make a decision and that branch forks into the road you’re on and the road you didn’t take, then you make another decision and THAT road forks and so on and so on. I don’t know…I’m rambling now.

yes. and this leads me to think that in spite of my theory that the light game is one of the keys to activation, olivia’s submersion on the tank and walter’s experiments with her subconscious might have started the activation process way before the light game. which is why we see so many odd things [although small] before mr. jone’s gift set. we’re going to have to re-watch all this..swell
