Observers Are Here Blog for fans of J.J. Abrams’ show Fringe

There are quite a few things that I haven’t mentioned yet, but that I would like to touch on before the next episode airs.  Some are theories or speculations, some are just observations and some are outright questions.

#1 - The first question is whether buy accounting essay or our writers of the episodes themselves will be able to calculate all the costs of filming the series.

#2 – The kiss between Nina and Broyles…what was that about?  At first I thought this was a long term or new development, but after watching the scene again, I believe that is was more of a one way kiss on Nina’s part.  Broyles didn’t seem as into it as Nina did.  Is it possible that instead of an ongoing relationship that it was a prior relationship?  Perhaps they worked together at some point and built a relationship at that time, but when Nina went to work for William Bell, their relationship fell apart.  Either way, I think it might explain why Broyles has been slipping her information.  Do you think that this helps or hinders the Fringe Division?

#3 – There was another reference to Peter and Alter-Peter in 201.  Walter states that Peter loved custard as a child and Peter states that he has NEVER liked custard.

#4 – Olivia speaking Greek.  We are fairly sure that her bionic hearing is a side effect of the inter-dimensional traveling and we know from Sam Weiss that she will be getting headaches as well.  But what other side effects should she expect?  When she wakes up in the hospital and…

When reviewing some of the comments, I came across one by pr3sidentspence…

“What’s up with the braille anyway?

I doubt is was used to be some easy to break code.

One of the recent glyph codes was VISION. I wonder if someone in the show will be blinded?”

I agreed with this observation.  Why braille?  Did they think nobody would crack that?  Maybe for the viral/ARG that they ran last summer, no problem.  But now they have started a new viral/ARG and they are still using the braille.  It’s signifigant, it has to be.  But why?

Then I remembered something from Episode 120.  Something about the picture of Peter with his Mom and Walter.

I had wanted to write something about Peter’s coin, but truth was, I didn’t have any good theories and I hadn’t done any research yet.  Then I got an email from Di – she was reading my mind, me thinks.  She has done the research and I am intrigued with the connections she made, so I have decided to let her take this one.  By her own words, this might be more coincidence than theory, but I like it anyways.

The coin is an out of use ‘Walking Liberty’ 50c coin used in the US from 1916 to 1946/7. It’s considered the best designed coin so far, and was designed by a German sculptor named A.A. Weinman, born in 1870 who arrived at the US at age 10 [in 1880]. More German references perhaps? That’d been brought up before. Also, the context behind the coin, as I found it on the coin resource site, makes references to Woodrow Wilson, who won re-election on 1916 with his campaign with the slogan ‘He kept us out of war!’, but within a few months, the war broke out anyways.

I would like to talk a bit about Olivia’s almost car crash.  At first I just thought they inserted it to show us that Olivia was distracted and not concentrating on what she was doing, but the more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was more to it than that.  So, I watched it frame by frame, over and over again, then I noticed something.

The first screencap is taken just a split second before Olivia swerves to avoid the silver car…notice the man in the gray blazer standing on the sidewalk…

Walter explains that every time you make a choice another branch forms on the ‘reality tree’.  And with every choice after there is another fork and so on.  The reality that Olivia visits, the reality where Bell is and the reality that Jones is trying to get to are all the same one.  But shouldn’t there be an infinite number of realities?  So maybe there was one single event, one choice that connected a particular reality to ours.  One main occurrence that built some sort of bridge between this universe and one single other universe.

So what was that one occurrence?  Here’s my theory…

We see Walter standing over a tombstone that reads ‘Peter Bishop 1978 – 1985′.  Walter has mentioned on a couple of occasions about Peter being very sick as a child, and Peter doesn’t seem to recall any of this.  What if Peter died from that illness when he was seven, and Walter grabbed himself a new son.  Walter spoke of bringing back a Doctor to save Peter.  What if Walter was actually traveling through dimensions to bring back a Peter from another reality?  This would explain why Peter doesn’t remember the same things as Walter.

Walter expected Peter to be chubbier, maybe the original boy carried a few extra pounds.  Walter immediately checked Peter’s eyes when they met at St. Claires, was Walter worried that this Peter might also catch the same illness that killed his Peter? Peter doesn’t remember his toys being the same way, like the scar on G.I Joe.  What about Peter’s medical records that Walter referred to.  Would it be a dead giveaway?  Perhaps this Peter had his tonsils out, and the Alter-Peter didn’t, or something to that effect.

Maybe this is why the Observer saved Peter from drowning…he knew his importance to the other world and to this one.  Or, maybe the Observer helped Walter bring Peter through, and in exchange, he would call upon Walter for a favor someday.  It’s possible Walter couldn’t do it on his own.  Perhaps the car accident was a ruse to cover up what really happened, and help explain Peter’s ‘memory problems‘.  A little amnesia is common for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

What about the Walter in that universe?  ‘How far would you go for someone you love? ‘ Is it possible that he is flashing back and forth between the two worlds trying to get his son back?  Maybe this is the Alter-Walter that Walter saw in St. Claires. Maybe, without the Observer’s help, the most he can do is slip in and out for a moment or two at a time, Much like Olivia at first.  That would definitely be enough to drive me insane.

OK, I’m rambling now.  My point was that perhaps it was the kidnapping of Peter from the other world that set in motion a chain of events that led to the catastrophy that Olivia was witnessing in that world.  I’m not sure how, but you know what they say ‘…step on a butterfly…’.  I think Peter is much more important than we realize.

Here is the Newspaper that was sitting on William Bell’s desk, in his office on the top floor of one of the twin towers in New York City. – Did 9/11 not happen or have they rebuilt already?

#1 – Obama set to move into new White House.  Did something happen to the original white house?  Did the Flight from 9/11 hit and destroy the white house as planned and they already rebuilt?

#2 – Former Pres. Kennedy to address UN. – So was JFK not assassinated, or did one of the other Kennedy boys make it to the white house?  JFK would be in is 90′s if he’s not dead.  The pic kind of looks like Senator Edward M. Kennedy or even Ted Kennedy.

#3 – Celtics Sweep!  Lyn Bias wins MVP. – He actually died before playing for the Celtics.  Today, he would be 46 years of age, a little old to be winning MVP.

#4 – Stock Markets Remain Closed – 21 Days & Counting.
